Nigeria's Police in Plateau Plateau closes up on kidnappers, parades suspects

NIGERIA

Police in Nigeria’s northcentral of Plateau State, has paraded suspected kidnappers operating in the state following a crackdown on their activities, and tracking of reported cases of kidnapping in the state in recent times.

Parading the suspects on Monday at the Command Headquarters in Jos the capital city, the State Police Commissioner, Austin Agbonlahor, said “the Command successfully tackled cases of kidnapping, armed robbery, and cattle rustling”.

He stated further that “in all the cases of kidnap, the Command rescued the victims without paying any ransom, and arrested some suspects who perpetrated the act”.

On the rescue of the royal father who was recently kidnapped in Shendam local government area, His Royal Highness David Isa Dongbam, the Police Commissioner expressed happiness that the traditional head of the Dorok Kingdom of Shendam is in excellent health condition, and that the Police also achieved this without paying any ransom.

In further analysis of the details of the Police operations during the period, Agbonhalor stated that on October 23, 2018, three suspected kidnappers were arrested and their victim rescued, following a report that somebody made a call with a definite phone number to a certain Amino Hamilton indicating that they had kidnapped his six-year old son, and warned him not to inform the Police.

On the recovery of rustled cattle, the Police Commissioner said the Command acted on “credible information” received from a certain person in Jos South local government area, by deploying promptly in pursuit of the cattle rustlers.

He said this paid off as the combined efforts of the Police and other security operatives who closed in on the thieves and recovered all the rustled cows as the thieves took to their heels on sighting the law operatives.

Agbonhalor also used the moment to assure on adequate and professional deployment of security during this period as political activities have peaked, adding that the various political parties should avoid unnecessary clashes especially at venues of political events, but should act responsibly within the precepts of the law
