Nigeria’s Police boss trains personnel on detecting crimes ahead of 2019 elections

Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, said the Force has trained Police personnel as well as other security agencies on Advanced Detective Course aimed at detecting and prosecuting crimes ahead of the 2019 general elections and beyond.

The IGP said the course is primarily designed for junior officer’s cadre and their counterparts in other organizations to train and equip them with contemporary methods of investigating emerging crimes in the society.

The Police boss stated on Friday at the Police Staff College in the northcentral city of Jos, the Plateau state capital, during the graduation ceremony of the Advanced Detective Course 67.

He said, “It is an opportunity for reinvigorating the need for a symbiotic working relationship with other security agencies leading to the ultimate result of strengthening the internal security of our dear country.

“I have no doubt in my mind that the course has been able to achieve it’s objective going by the rich curricula and the quality of resource persons invited for the same purpose.”

Mr Idris who was represented by the Commandant of the Police Staff College, AIG Dorothy Gimba, charged the graduands saying, “as law enforcers, you must always work and uphold the unity of this nation.

“I urge you to ensure that the impact of the course is reflected on your professional conduct and duties as all hands must be on deck for a successful 2019 general elections.”

On her part, the Commandant of the College, AIG Gimba, said the training is systematically structured to enhance the professional skills and intellectual capacities of the participants in the areas of intelligence gathering, prevention, investigations and eventual prosecution of criminal cases that abound in our society.

She said modern trend in policing requires a high level of training and inter-agency collaboration which is aimed at ridding our society of crimes and criminalities such as terrorism, insurgency, armed robbery, cattle rustling, farmers/herders clashes, militancy, kidnapping, homicide and other societal ills, Gimba said.
