Nigeria police uncover vote buying in northeastern Bauchi

Ahead of Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections, the Nigeria Police in northeastern Bauchi state, said it has uncovered plots by some politicians in to engage in vote buying.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kamal Abubakar, said the plan by the politicians is to also engage in other electoral offences so as to have an edge over their political opponents.

‎”The Command have credible intelligence that, some politicians in the state have concluded plans to engage in vote buying and other electoral offences in order to gain advantage over their political opponents”, he said. 

The PPRO while calling on such politicians to have a rethink on their plans said the police and other security agents will be all out to deal with any person caught in the act in accordance to the law.

The police spokesman assured the general public and all political parties of adequate security measures and level playing ground for peaceful conduct of the 2019 general election in Bauchi.

He however said the Police has placed a total restriction of movement of persons and vehicles between the midnight hour of Friday 22nd February, to 6:00pm on Saturday 23rd February, with the exception of personnel on essential duties who must carry their valid identification card.

He also maintained that only eligible registered voters with valid Permanent Voters Card (PVC) will be allowed to vote and after voting must keep distance of at least 300 meters away from the polling unit.

The Police spokesperson warned miscreants, thugs and disgruntled elements from coming near accreditation centers and polling units as according to him, “hoodlums caught fomenting trouble will be dealt with.

Kama called on parents, traditional rulers, religious leaders, opinion leaders, guardians to prevail on their children, subjects, adherents and wards not to allow themselves to be used to cause disturbance of public peace before, during or after the elections.
