Nigeria’s Governor Simon Lalong in northcentral Plateau state, has tasked the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to shun corruption practices as they embark on their primary assignment.

He encouraged them to rather emulate their predecessors, and strive to surpass their achievements in the areas of education, agriculture and healthcare delivery.

Lalong stated this on Tuesday at the Closing and Passing-Out Ceremony of the 2019 Batch ‘A’ Corps Members, held at the NYSC permanent orientation camp in Mangu local government area in the State.

Represented by the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Hon. Victor Lapang, Lalong said, “You must shun corruption and other vices in whatever form and strictly embrace integrity, patriotism and selflessness to achieve a formidable foundation.

“I urge you all to accept your postings to your places of primary assignment in good faith and with a sense of commitment trusting that the government and people of Plateau State will always provide an enabling environment for a smooth sail, as you settle down to serve our dear fatherland”, he said.

Earlier in his remarks, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr. Abdulsalam Alhassan, charged Corps members to strive to make positive impact in the lives of their host communities through community development service.

Alhassan said the skills and knowledge gained while in camp will further enhance the competence of the Corps members to enable them provide value added services to their places of primary assignment. “Let me therefore emphasised that your induction had imposed on you, a sense of responsibility and the challenges of having to henceforth, stand tall in integrity, impeccable character, diligent service and the ability to uphold high ethical standards hence, I urge you to always live up to expectation, Alhassan said.
