The Special Military Taskforce in Plateau State North Central Nigeria code named Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), has said the Command is prepared to hunt down anyone who is bent on disrupting the farming season this year.

The Commander of the force, Major General Augustine Agundu, who spoke on behalf of the command stated this when he embarked on an assessment tour to one of the troubled communities in Riyom local government area of the State.

“Everybody must go to farm this year and if anyone wants to be an obstacle, I will hunt him down, Gen. Agundu said.

The Army boss also cautioned the natives of Riyom not to harass herders who are not grazing on farmlands.

“In the same vain nobody should restrict herders from passing through where there are no farmlands. The challenge Plateau is facing is that some people have sown seeds of discord in the minds of our young once. We should not allow ourselves to be used to ferment trouble; we must agree among ourselves to live together”, the OPSH boss said.

On his tour within communities’ prone to violence during farming season, the Army boss also visited one of the Fulani predominant communities and charged them to report any act of criminality to OPSH personnel posted to their district rather than taking laws into their hands.

He said the state has gone through crisis for the past 20 years and cannot afford to continue on the same part, hence anyone caught in the act of violent will be treated as a miscreant.

“It is our mandate to end all forms of crisis on the Plateau.  It’s been 20 long years of having crisis in the State, are we not tired?”, he said.

On his part, the National President Berom Moulders Association, Mr. Gabriel Sunday, lauded the Army boss for his tireless effort in ensuring lasting peace in the State, pledging to lead the youths of Berom land to support and compliment the effort of the OPSH.

Also, one Alhaji Bello Adamu, representing the Ardo of Riyom assured the Commander that the elders have ensured that herders and Fulanis will remain law abiding.

Adamu lauded Agundu for returning the once lost peace in Riyom LGA, saying that before now the Fulanis do not have free access to move around the area.
