UK could endure hottest recorded night tonight

Hottest recorded night' tonight as heatwave scorches Britain

UNITED KINGDOM

Britain could be about to endure the highest night-time temperature ever recorded as the country swelters in a heatwave.

Sky News Africa’s weather producer, Joanna Robinson, said that, as well as high day-time temperatures, we can expect it to be “exceptionally warm at night too, with a 40% chance of breaking the highest overnight minima.”

The current night-time record, set in Brighton in August 1990, is 23.9C (75F).

It is also odds-on that a new record for the hottest day in July is set and there is even a chance we will see the highest ever UK temperature.

South East England is expected to hit 37C (98.6F) on Thursday and Joanna Robinson said: “There’s now an 80% chance we’ll break the July temperature record on Thursday and a 40% chance of recording the hottest EVER day.”

The current July record, set at Heathrow Airport in 2015, is 36.7C (98.1F), while the UK’s all-time record stands at 38.5C (101.3F), logged in Faversham in August 2003.

The Met Office has issued an amber heat alert – the second-highest level – for the East and South East of England as well as the East Midlands.
