Nigeria’s Plateau Senator partner Agency, train youths

Nigerian Plateau North Central Senator representing Plateau North at the National Assembly, who also doubles as the Deputy Chairman Senate committee on Defense, Hon. Istifanus Gyang on Tuesday said he is seeking partnership with the country’s Industrial Training Funds (ITF), to train youths of his constituency in skills acquisition, to enable them become employers of labour. 

Gyang stated this in Jos, the city capital, at the headquarters of the Funds while on a familiarization tour to all the federal establishments and Institutions that are domiciled in his constituency, the Plateau North.

The visit which started with the ITF also seeks collaboration with the Funds on ways to end youth restiveness.

“My visit to the ITF is with the view to cultivate a constructive relationship that will see to it that youths and indeed the people of Plateau North are carried along with gains of establishing such an agency in their constituency.

“I intend to use my legislative capacity to enhance the attainment of the objectives and core mandate of the ITF.

“The role and mandate of the ITF, is that of building institutional capacity thereby enhancing performance through sustained training of personnel and workforce.

“The ITF has also distinguished itself in empowering citizens with skills vocation and expertise therefore addressing the issue of unemployment as the beneficiaries become self-employed and even job creators.

“I will address issues that relate to the Acts establishing all Federal agencies that require enactment or amendment. A case in point was the Act establishing the College of Medical Laboratory Science and Technology Jos which I sponsored in the 8th Assembly and was accented into law by the President.

“Another is the Bill establishing the Regional Center for Oral Health Research and Training Initiatives in Jos, among the over 20 Bill’s which I sponsored during the 8th Assembly as Member of the House of Representatives”, he said.

In his response, the Director General, ITF, Sir Joseph Ari, welcomed the Senator and his entourage, saying that he holds the Senator in high esteem considering his quality representation. He described the Senator as a personality in whom the people are pleased with and doing the State proud.

He urged the Senator to uphold his performance which are visible.

He appreciated the hospitality and peaceful disposition of the host community and said he will contribute immensely to the community through its corporate social responsibility as can be seen through the Staff School and boreholes sunk by the Training Fund to address the acute water shortage in the neighborhood.

He said the Industrial Fund is focused on Technical and vocational training to uplift and empower citizens with skills thereby reducing dependence on white collar jobs.

Ari said ITF will collaborate with the Senator in terms of empowerment so as to deliver dividends of democracy to the people.

The DG said the ITF is leveraging on skills development to reduce youth restiveness, prostitution and other social vices.
