Nigeria’s Plateau community divides over LG Chair tussle

NIGERIA

Nigeria’s Plateau State community of Langtang North local government council in north central part of the country, have embarked on war of words between two groups over the Chairmanship position of the LGA.

The 2018 local government elections which saw the emergency of Mr. Amos Kpanim of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), as the winner of the polls was challenged at the tribunal by the opposition People’s Democratic Party’s candidate (PDP), Mr. Ubandoma Laven.

The Appeal Court Tribunal however sacked the APC candidate, Mr. Kpanim and declared Laven as the winner of the 2018 LG polls.

Kpanim however approached a magistrate court and obtained an injection on the judgement of the Appeal court, which Mr. Laven and the PDP viewed as unconstitutional, calling on Governor Simon Lalong to do the needful and swear-in Mr. Laven and the PDP as duly elected.

Consequently, a Langtang group under the aegis of Tarok Concern Youths on Thursday passed a vote of confidence on the APC LG Chairman, Mr. Amos Kpanim, saying that he has done so well for the council since he assumed office.

In a press briefing with Journalists, the anchor of the group, Haruna Ringnap said as a progressive group with grassroots background, has witnessed rapid development since Amos assumed office as Chairman.

“We as a progressive group with grassroots background pass a vote of confidence on Hon. Amos Kpanim and we say he still remains Chairman of Langtang North local government area, pending the outcome of the matter in court.

“The Tarok people of Langtang North are happy with Amos because of his developmental strides, we as a group would stand with him at all times”, the group said.

It would be recalled that on Wednesday another group from Langtang North had earlier held a similar press briefing, urging Governor Lalong to as a matter of adhering to constitutional guidelines swear-in Mr. Ubandoma Laven of the PDP as the duly elected Chairman of the Langtang North LGA as ruled by the Appeal Court Tribunal.
