A Tanzanian comedian was captured mid-week for swapping seats with the nation’s leader, John Pombe Magufuli.
In a Twitter post commending the president’s 60th birthday celebration on Tuesday, Idris Sultan shared an altered picture of his head on the president’s body and the other way around.
The accompanying message written in Swahili meant: “We swapped jobs for a day so he could make the most of his birthday in harmony.”
It was this swap that landed him in a tough situation when he was invited and along these lines and detained by the Police on Wednesday before his discharged late Thursday.
Reports demonstrate that Police were thinking about charging Idris – a one-time champ of Big Brother Africa unscripted TV drama – under Tanzania’s Cybercrimes Act which prohibits utilizing a PC framework to “mimic” another person and the production of fake news.
His legal advisor affirmed to Sky News Africa that Sultan had been released on bail after questioning by police in the city of Dar es Salaam. He is required to return to the police today (November 1), our correspondent said.
