NIGERIA

Nigeria’s electricity company in northcentral Plateau State, known as Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JED), said it has responded to the agreement reached between the federal government and Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), to temporarily suspend the new hike in electricity tariff for two weeks.

JED stated this yesterday in a press statement sent to our correspondent, through its spokesman, Dr. Friday Elijah, explaining that the energy company has reverted to the old tariff.

Recall that the NLC, had suspended its planned nationwide strike that would have started Monday, September 28, in protest against the hike in pump price of fuel and electricity tariff.

However the strike was put on hold pending the report of a joint government/labour committee that was set up to review the issues within two weeks.
