NIGERIA

A Commissioner for Youths and Sports in north central Nigeria’s Plateau State, Mr. Victor Lapan has charged youths to get involved in Politics aimed at contributing their quota to the development of the country.

Lapan said rather than dispense so much energy criticising government policies, it will do them well to use such energy to get involved in governance and actualise their dreams.

The Commissioner stated this on Friday while attending a youth summit organised by the State Government to address the EndSARS agitators’ request, which began over a month ago across many States in Nigeria.

The EndSARS movement was to quell Police brutality as alleged by the protesters, Sky News Africa had earlier reported in many of its articles since the movement tagged #EndSARS began in Nigeria.

“I will advise them to channel their strength positively by getting involved in governance. It is not enough for youths to be agitators. Let them go to their constituency and form a political party or be visible in an existing one thereby being visible in the political process and consequently take their own share on what is brought to the table”, Lapan said.

Lapan said youths have shown their strength with the EndSARS protest and government has loudly recognised their demand.

He however condemn the violence that followed the protest, saying that the agitators would have come to the table of discussion when the ovation was the loudest.

“Youths should learn to channel their energy positively and if they do they will surely get what they want”, Lapan said.

Our correspondent reports that Plateau among the Nigerian States is the first to recognise the representative of EndSARS movement to dialogue with them with the aim to address their demand.
