The Speaker of Nigeria’s Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Ayuba Abok, has said the destroyed properties by hoodlums during the EndSARS protest has risen to N100 billion.

Recall that the State Government had earlier given an estimated figure of N75 billion, shortly immediately after hoodlums looted and destroyed government properties in October 2020.

However Abok said, “The Assembly went with the State Government to inspect government properties destroyed by the hoodlums during the EndSARS protest. The level of destruction was massive and unbelievable. Over 40 government institutions were looted and destroyed”.    

The Speaker stated this on Wednesday in Jos, while briefing journalists on the position of Plateau in respect to the recent EndSARS protest that turned violent as well as the situation of the coronavirus pandemic.

He appealed to the federal government to assist the State with funds to rebuild the destroyed properties.

Also on his list of demands were support from the federal government to procure mobile testing facilities for coronavirus.

He said just like other states in northern Nigeria, with reference to Kano State, Plateau also has a growing number of cases especially in the rural communities.

He said: “We call on the Federal Government to support the State with COVID-19 Mobile Testing facilities that will enable the rural populace get tested of the novel pandemic.

“Members of the State Assembly are determined to step up the testing efforts of the State Government to rural areas but can only be possible with a mobile testing lab as demonstrated in Kano State and other northern states of the country”, the Speaker said.
