2027: Igbo tribes in Nigeria endorses Gov Mutfwang for second term

The President General of the Igbo Community Association (ICA), Jos, in Nigeria northcentral, Chief Mike Okunonke, has declared the community’s unwavering support for the re-election of Plateau State Governor, His Excellency Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, in the 2027 governorship election.

Chief Okunonke said the endorsement was in recognition of Governor Mutfwang’s impressive performance, which has been marked by transparency, accountability, and an inclusive governance style that has positively impacted both urban and rural communities across the state.

Speaking during the Governor’s condolence visit to Amb. Nelson Mkparu, Chief Executive Officer of NELMACO Global Resources and a leading pipe manufacturer based in Jos, over the passing of his wife, Mrs. Ifeoma Mkparu, the ICA President General described Mutfwang as “a people-focused leader whose commitment to development and security has made life better for all residents, including the Igbo community.”

Chief Okunonke recalled that the Igbo community in Plateau State voted overwhelmingly for Governor Mutfwang in 2023 and has no regrets, citing the Governor’s remarkable strides in infrastructure, security, and creating a conducive environment for business to thrive.

“The Igbos are deeply grateful to Governor Mutfwang. Roads like Apata, which had been abandoned for over a decade, were rehabilitated within months of his assumption of office. From Utan Road to Namua, Jenta Adamu, and many other critical infrastructure projects, work is ongoing across the state. Our people feel safer, more secure, and fully included in the development agenda of this administration,” he stated.

Chief Okunonke praised the Governor for his personal visit to the Mkparu family, noting that the gesture has brought immense comfort to both the bereaved family and the wider Igbo community in Jos.

“Your visit is not only a show of solidarity but also a reflection of your humility and genuine love for our people,” he added. “The peaceful and enabling environment your administration has cultivated encourages us to continue to see Plateau as home, and we are ready to reward your good governance with massive votes come 2027.”

In his remarks, Governor Caleb Mutfwang expressed appreciation for the Igbo community’s enduring commitment to peace, harmony, and development in Plateau State. He noted that their contributions have been instrumental in stabilizing and advancing the state.

“The Igbo community is one of the stabilizing forces on the Plateau. You have consistently shown dedication to development and peaceful coexistence. I’m not saying this to score political points, your impact is visible and deeply appreciated,” the Governor said.

Governor Mutfwang assured the community that his administration will continue to recognize and value their contributions, adding that their investments, such as those of Amb. Mkparu, reflect their faith in the state’s future.

“It is heartwarming to see that many of you have chosen to call Plateau home and are investing billions here. We are committed to fostering strong partnerships with progressive-minded individuals and communities like yours,” he affirmed.

He further pledged to ensure the Igbo community continues to enjoy a pride of place in Plateau’s socio-economic and political affairs, stating, “We value your friendship, your enterprise, and your commitment. By the grace of God, we will continue to build a Plateau that works for all.”
