Broom sellers makes brisk sales as APC welcomes Mutfwang in Nigeria’s Plateau

Broom traders are counting their profits as the sales of brooms have skyrocketed in Plateau State following the defection of Governor Caleb Mutfwang to the All Progressives Congress.

Mutfwang, whose defection from the Peoples Democratic Party would be officially announced in January 2026, has ignited an atmosphere of political fresh air in the state.

Mutfwang dumped the PDP after an extended cabinet meeting held at the Government House in Jos.

However, after the announcement of the Governor’s defection by the APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, the sales of brooms booms as well as the brandishing of the

APC flag.

Also, State officials could be heard in clusters  praising President Bola Tinubu and chorusing, “We are now in APC, Tomorrow is here; it is APC all the way; it is Jagaban all the way.”

According to our correspondent, this move has brought about a scarcity of brooms in the State.

A visit to various markets in the State, as quoted by this platform, revealed that many people have entered the business because the original sellers lacked the capacity to meet the demands.

The broom is the official symbol of the APC, and party faithful use it during rallies, defections, and registrations.

PDP members who are expected to defect with Governor Mutfwang are expected to carry brooms during their defection ceremony.

“The development has led to a serious boom in the broom business in different parts of Plateau”, Political watchers say.

A trader who identified herself as Mercy Kachollom was quoted as saying she had been smiling at the bank since the rumor of the defection started.

“Honestly, since the rumor started, we have been experiencing a boom in our business. I have been doing supply, and I have been making serious money, I must confess.

“Many people have joined the business, and all of us are making serious money. I want more people to join the APC so that we will make more money,” She stated.
