Eminent personalities and members of the Igbo community in Nigeria and the Diaspora gathered in Owerri, the Imo State capital of southeastern Nigeria on Friday to pay tribute to Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the late president of Igbos Worldwide.
Iwuanyanwu known in Nigeria as the President “Ohaneze Ndigbo” was also a distinguished politician and businessman whose contributions have left an indelible mark on the region.
However, the activist, Ralph Uwazuruike and Bianca Ojukwu, prominent figures in the Igbo leadership, united at this historic burial ceremony to honor Iwuanyanwu’s legacy, reflecting on his profound impact on the community.
The burial ceremony which took place in Atta, Ikeduru LGA of Imo State, where family, friends, and dignitaries converged to celebrate the life of a man who dedicated himself to the betterment of his people.
Emmanuel Iwuanyawu, who passed away on July 25, 2024, was revered for his philanthropic efforts, political leadership, and commitment to community development. The significance of this burial was not just in mourning his loss but in recognizing the enduring legacy he leaves behind.
Ralph Uwazuruike and Bianca Ojukwu arrived at the venue amidst an atmosphere of respect and reverence. Their presence was warmly welcomed by Iwuanyawu’s family and community members, signifying the respect Iwuanyawu commanded.
The event also attracted numerous other dignitaries, highlighting the collective acknowledgment of Iwuanyawu’s contributions to the Igbo nation.
Bianca Ojukwu with her remarks, sharing personal anecdotes that underscored Iwuanyawu’s generosity and wisdom. Emotional moments resonated throughout the gathering as attendees recalled their experiences with Iwuanyanwu, reinforcing the sense of loss felt by all.
Emmanuel Iwuanyawu’s legacy is multifaceted, encompassing his roles in politics, business, and philanthropy. As the 11th president-general of Ọhanaeze Ndigbo, he was a staunch advocate for the rights and interests of the Igbo people, championing unity and progress within the community.
His philanthropic initiatives improved education, healthcare, and infrastructure in southeastern Nigeria. The reflections shared during the ceremony emphasized how his values of service and dedication will continue to inspire future generations.
The sentiments expressed at the ceremony were echoed by many attendees, who shared their own reflections on Iwuanyawu’s influence.
Family members, friends, and community leaders spoke of the void his passing has created while also expressing deep gratitude for the life he led. The collective sentiment underscored a commitment to uphold the values Iwuanyawu championed, ensuring that his spirit continues to guide the community.
Recall that Uwazuruike during a condolence visit to Iwuanyanwu’s family in New Owerri where he was received by Iwuanyanwu’s son, Jude Iwuanyanwu and other family members, extolled the qualities of Iwuanyanwu saying “If you are not close to Iwuanyanwu, you will not know that he is a uniquely kind and humble man. Humble to a fault. I’m heavily heartbroken because his death has left a big vacuum in Igbo land that is like a father of Nd’igbo when he was alive. ”
The burial ceremony for Iwuanyawu was a powerful reminder of the importance of legacy, leadership, and unity within the Igbo community.
Uwazuruike and Bianca Ojukwu’s tribute highlighted the profound impact of Iwuanyawu’s life, celebrating his contributions while calling for a continued commitment to the values he embodied.
