Gov Mutfwang Applauds Air Force Jos as it Celebrates 2025 Cultural Day

Governor Caleb Mutfwang has reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to lasting peace, hailing the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) as a cornerstone of stability in the region.

The Governor’s commendation came during the 2025 Base Socio-Cultural Activities (BASCA) held Saturday at the NAF 551 Station in Jos. The event, a vibrant blend of military tradition and ethnic heritage, served as a platform to strengthen the bond between security forces and the Plateau community.

Unity in Service

Representing the Governor, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Rt. Hon. Joyce Lohya Ramnap, emphasized that the current peace enjoyed in Plateau is the result of deliberate, sustained collaboration.

“This gathering reaffirms not just our cultural diversity, but our unity of purpose,” the Commissioner stated. “The Plateau State Government deeply appreciates the professionalism and sacrifices of the Nigerian Air Force in building a more peaceful state.”

In a gesture of support for those serving the nation, the Commissioner also announced a government donation to National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members currently posted to the Air Force station.

Core Values and Mental Wellbeing

The Commander of the 551 NAF Station, Air Commodore Friday Bassey, noted that the event was designed to do more than entertain. By focusing on the theme “Cultural Unity and Professional Excellence,” the Air Force aims to:

  • Promote Integrity: Reenforcing loyalty and respect as core military values.
  • Enhance Morale: Providing a vital emotional outlet for officers and their families.
  • Strengthen Ties: Building bridges between military personnel and the civil population.

Hon. Ziphion Chrysanthus, Liaison Director for MDAs and Security Agencies, added that such activities are crucial for the emotional health of personnel who face high-pressure security challenges. He noted that “recharging” through culture ultimately increases productivity on the front lines.

A Night of Tradition

The ceremony drew several high-profile attendees, including former Governor Joshua Dariye, who lauded the NAF’s consistent commitment to regional security.

The festivities concluded with a display of Nigeria’s rich heritage, featuring:

  • Cultural Dances: Performances from various ethnic groups representing the station’s diversity.
  • Tug-of-War: A competition testing the physical strength and teamwork of the airmen.
  • Traditional Rites: The lighting of a bonfire and the ceremonial “beating of the retreat.”
