How Gov Mutfwang’s Defection ‘ll double support for Tinubu in Plateau – Group
Nigeria
A group under the aegis of Plateau Youths For Progressive Change (PYPC), has said if the Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang defects to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the move will double the home base support for President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking with our correspondent, leader of the group, Ezra Yakubu, added that when the courageous and patriotic decision will be concluded the move will signifies an increasing admiration and trust the Plateau people have in President Tinubu’s administration.
“Governor Mutfwang’s defection is not just symbolic of a new alignment, it will also show that the Plateau people are truly in love with President Bola Tinubu’s leadership. The Plateau people will however, witness a historic political shift,” Yakubu added.
He said should Mutfwang defect, Tinubu will be commended for his unprecedented inclusiveness and his deliberate efforts to integrate the northcentral into the mainstream of Nigerian politics and governance.
According to him, “No President in Nigeria’s recent history has demonstrated such genuine love and political inclusion. The level of appointments, infrastructure projects, and political attention the State have received is historic”, he said.
However, as 2025 ends the Governor’s political future remains a subject of intense debate, with developments suggesting that the conversation is no longer whether he will defect, but when.
Although defections are nothing new in Nigeria politics, observers say the movement is unprecedented due to its timing, pace, and symbolism.
Governors That Have Left The PDP:
Umo Eno, Akwa Ibom State Governor, and Sheriff Oborevwori, Delta State Governor, moved from the PDP to the APC earlier in the year. Duoye Diri, Bayelsa State Governor, and Peter Mba, Enugu State Governor, former PDP members, have moved to the APC.
The development has strengthened APC’s foothold in Nigeria, particularly in the South-East, weakening the PDP in its otherwise strongholds ahead of the 2027 general election.
It is also no longer rumours that Agbu Kefas, Taraba State Governor, is also planning to defect to the ruling party.
