Group tells Nigeria’s President Tinubu to call Party Chairman Nentawe, APC to Order

Group operating under the aegis of Renewed Hope Advocates of Nigeria (RHAN) on Saturday appead to the President of Nigeria Bola Tinubu to call the National Chairman of the party Prof Nentawe Yilwatda to order.

The statement siged by Comrade Prince Miaphen, it’s National Coordinator and made available to newsmen in Jos reads that ” I write as a loyal foot soldier of your Renewed Hope Administration and as a committed advocate for your 2027 re-election, to express my deep concern over the recent political missteps of the Plateau State chapter of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and more specifically, the disturbing posture of its National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda.

At a stakeholders’ meeting recently held in Jos — presided over by the National Chairman himself — a motion was not only moved but unanimously adopted to bar the incumbent Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, from joining the APC

The same meeting that enthusiastically endorsed your second term bid, paradoxically decided to block a sitting governor who could have been one of your strongest electoral assets in the North Central region. Sir, this contradiction speaks volumes about the growing disconnect between the Plateau APC leadership and your strategic national vision.

The statement added that “Mr. President, your administration’s success story is built upon political inclusion and bridge-building. Under your leadership, we have seen the Governors of Cross River, Ebonyi, Zamfara, Enugu, and Akwa Ibom either align with or show strong indications of partnership with the APC in recent years.”

” These moves have not only expanded our national base but reinforced your image as a President for all Nigerians. It therefore defies logic that the National Chairman of the APC — whose foremost responsibility should be to expand the party’s reach — is instead shrinking its horizon in his own home state.”

How can a party that celebrates the defection of governors in other regions suddenly turn hostile toward one in Plateau, a state that remains crucial to the political arithmetic of 2027? Plateau is not a small state — it boasts over 2.5 million registered voters, a figure that could significantly influence the next presidential outcome. Any strategy that alienates its sitting governor is not only shortsighted but politically suicidal.

Your Excellency, the optics are terrible. It raises questions about the competence, sincerity, and political maturity of the National Chairman and his caucus. Rather than convening a meeting to block Governor Mutfwang, Professor Nentawe should have been hosting strategic engagement sessions to woo him and his supporters into the party — especially since he governs a state that produced the current National Chairman of the APC. What sense does it make that the National Chairman’s own governor is still in the opposition?

The group also said “Sir, the lesson of 2023 should not be forgotten. Plateau was one of the states where we lost the presidential election despite having a sitting APC governor, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong, as the Director-General of your Presidential Campaign.

“That alone should have taught our party that personality politics and local disunity can destroy even the strongest national efforts. Now that history is threatening to repeat itself, do we stand idly by and watch it happen again — this time under the watch of a National Chairman who appears to be more preoccupied with settling old political scores than ensuring victory for the President who appointed him?”

It is widely whispered on the Plateau that Professor Nentawe still nurses personal bitterness over his 2023 gubernatorial loss and is quietly positioning himself for another attempt in 2027. If true, that would explain his hostility toward the current governor — and his attempt to sabotage your re-election bid in the process. Sir, if the man charged with uniting the APC nationwide cannot reconcile himself with his own state’s political reality, then it is time to re-evaluate his capacity to lead.

Your Excellency, Plateau people remain some of your most passionate supporters. “

“We remember your fatherly intervention during the tragic episodes of insecurity, your empathy during the recent floods, and your generous appointments of Plateau indigenes into key national positions. “

“The least we can do in return is to ensure that Plateau delivers overwhelmingly for you in 2027. But that will be impossible if internal saboteurs are allowed to weaponize party structures against genuine political expansion.”

Mr. President, you are a master strategist — a bridge builder who understands that no region should be politically isolated. It is in that spirit that I respectfully urge you to call Professor Nentawe Yilwatda and the Plateau APC caucus to order.”

“Their recent posture does not reflect your inclusive politics of unity, progress, and renewed hope. The door to any well-meaning Plateau citizen — including Governor Mutfwang — must remain open, if indeed our goal is to secure and strengthen your 2027 re-election.”

The group also said ” I have no doubt that with your wisdom and statesmanship, you will once again act decisively to preserve the unity and strength of our great party — and to ensure that the North Central remains solidly behind your leadership.”
