Military taskforce, youth’s in Nigeria treks 8117 steps for peace

Nigeria’ Military taskforce in northcentral part of Plateau state at the weekend embarked on peace walk to demonstrate the sustenance of peace.

The peace walk jointly executed with the youths covered a distance of 8,117 steps aimed at signaling the taskforce readiness to work together with the public and to also ensure a hitch free February 16th general polls.

Speaking at the end of the exercise, the Commander of the taskforce also known as Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), Major General Augustine Agundu, said the significance of the exercise is to preach peace and tolerance among citizens.

“We are creating awareness to let the people know that we have a lot to gain as a people in a peaceful environment, other than ways of violence.

“The show of walk is also indicating that the rate of crisis has reduced to the breast minimum”, he said

Agundu said the walk is simultaneously being replicated in the 17 local government areas of the state in furtherance to the directives from the Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Olonisakin to stem out criminality in all nook and cranny of the state and to restore confidence among the people.

Although the Military taskforce will not be directly involved in the elections as it is purely a police affair, Gen. Agundu however call for political tolerance and said it was important for all to accept to live in peace and harmony regardless of differences in opinion.

He said political activists should be mindful of their pronouncements and refrain from acts that could trigger security challenges.
