Be firm in dealing with criminals, insurgents Nigerian Army Chief tells troop

NIGERIA

Nigerian Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, has charged troops to be very firm in dealing with criminals, insurgents whom has been terrorising the country. 

Buratai stated this recently during the flag off exercise ‘AYEM AKPATUMA II’ in Takum Taraba State north eastern Nigeria.

Speaking during the flag off ceremony, the Army Chief said the essence of this year’s exercise is to consolidate on the gains recorded from the conduct of exercise ‘Ayem Akpatuma I’.

The exercise which is a deliberate move to ensure the fitness of troops in combating insurgents is conducted by headquarters 3 Division in collaboration with headquarters Command Army Records, headquarters Guards Brigade and 707 Special Forces Brigade of the Nigerian Army and will be executed simultaneously from November 1 to 23 December 2019 in Taraba, Kogi, Nasarawa and Benue States, Sky News Africa reports.

The Army Chief who was represented by the General Officer Commanding 3 Division, Maj Gen Nuhu Angbazo, maintained that this year’s exercise which is conducted in collaboration with other sister services and paramilitary agencies, is also aimed at building the capacity of the Nigerian Army personnel through practical exposure to sharpen skills in combating internal security threats across the North Central Region.

The Army boss noted that the exercise is also expected to strengthen civil – military relations between the military and good people of Taraba State, through civil – military cooperation activities such as medical outreach programmes, sanitation exercises, and educational support among others. 

He charged participating troops to take the exercise serious, charging them to be respectful to law abiding citizens and adhere strictly to rules of engagement.
