Nigerian Electricity workers under the umbrella of National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), on Wednesday down tools indefinably.
The union said the decision to strike remained the only option since dialogue has failed to resolve the lingering industrial disputes.
In a statement issued to our correspondent and signed by the assistant secretary general of the union, Comrade Anthony Sule, the 21 days ultimatum given the minister of Power expires by 12 midnight Tuesday, leaving the union with the only option to declare strike.
He said the strike will be indefinite and call on all members of NUEE to abide strictly by the directive to commence the strike.
He said, “The ministry of Power has failed to resolve some issues affecting members of the union since 2013 when the power sector was privatised especially issues that has to do with over 2,000 disengaged former PHCN workers and their pay off.
“Some of the unresolved issues include illegal transfer of union properties to investors among others which the union said were made known to the minister of power in a memo dated 7th November 2019 conveying the 21 days ultimatum”.
