A Nigerian Senator, in northcentral Plateau State, Istifanus Gyang has said his mandate is to secure, empower and protect the people of his constituent.
The federal Senator who is representing Plateau North at the National Assembly also said the mandate given to him must see to it that his people emerges billionaire through agriculture.
The Senator stated this in Jos the city capital, on Saturday while splashing materials for empowerment to the people of his constituent.
The materials which includes, tricycles, sewing and grinding machines are meant to alleviate the sufferings of the poorest of the poor in the hinterlands of the Plateau North constituency.
“I have purposely set out three things to achieve; to secure Plateau North on the platform of peace, to reconcile the people through dialogue and to empower them”,
Sky News Africa’s correspondent reports that the gesture was meant to celebrate the Democracy Day and to mark his one year in office as a Senator.
Speaking at a mini event organise for the distribution of the materials, Gyang said it has become imperative for him to say thank you to the people of Plateau North, who accepted the calling and prompting of God, for him to serve the people.
“Through your goodwill and support, I am today your representative and I say thank you.
“And as I thank God for this occasion, I felt that there should be something to show for this journey so far.
“I have purposely set out three things to achieve; to secure Plateau North on the platform of peace, to reconcile the people through dialogue and to empower them,” he said.
However the distributed items which includes 77 sewing machines, 44 grinding machines and 10 tricycles, also had in addition a 90-shop market for traders in Riyom Local Government Area of the State.
