Nigeria’s Chairperson, International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) in northcentral Plateau State, Mrs. Mary ABAH IZAM, is advocating death penalty for Rapists.
Izam said the violence ‘Against Persons Prohibition Act’ is the law FIDA Nigeria is advocating for its domestication in all states of the federation.
She said some states have domesticated the Act which stipulates life imprisonment for perpetrators of rape, but added that the submission is subject to the discretion of the judge.
“Recently in Kaduna State northwestern Nigeria, a judge gave a verdict of death sentence.
“For FIDA Plateau, we are advocating for death sentence for the perpetrators because, most of them kill their victims’ after raping them”, She said.
