The only opposition party Local Government Chairman in Nigeria’s north central Plateau State, on Tuesday hinted that the ruling party in the State, the All Progressives Congress (APC), has fine-tuned plans to impeach him as Chairman.

The LG boss, Hon. Ubandoma Joshua Laven, of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), said the ploy is currently been hatched by some aids close to the State Governor, Simon Lalong, who have perfected antics that might lead to his exist during the forthcoming by-election in the southern part of Plateau.

Laven, who is the Council boss in northern Langtang part of the State, said he is on high alert to forestall any antics by some desperate politicians who does not mean well for the people.

However, in a statement sent to our correspondent, the State opposition party spokesman, Mr. John Akans, said that the party is aware of the looming impeachment and is carefully watching and monitoring the situation.

Also, a group under the auspices of Concerned Citizens for Good Governance (CCGG), in a press statement said the purported impeachment plot is being orchestrated by people who are bent on destroying the relationship between Governor Lalong and the LG boss.

According to the statement: “The impeachment saga is being masterminded by one of the overzealous aide of Governor Lalong, who is trying to use 15 APC councillors against the 3 councilors from the minority parties to impeach the Chairman who is enjoying grassroots popularity as a result of his people oriented programmes and policies.

“This development has nothing to do with the Governor. It is arrogance and share power mongering that is fueling the aide who l feels he can get the15 councilors from the ruling APC to do everything humanly possible to distract the chairman by given the APC councilors four weeks to impeach Ubandoma Laven”.

The statement signed by the Chairman of the group, comrade Paul Ezekiel and Secretary, Edward Nandom, also noted that the chairman has not clocked one year in office but his achievements speak volume, which is evident in the renovation of the Langtang North water dam, remodeling of the council secretariat, provision of motorized borehole to communities hitherto without water, payment of WAEC and JAMB fees for students, curtailing the spread of Covid-19 as he was the first in the state to have fumigated his council area.

The group called on Lalong to call his aids to order, with the view to caution their unpopular plan, hence his hard earned reputation will be dragged to the mud.
