LP Acting Chair Apapa, disowns Abure’s appointment, says he remain in charge

The National Acting Chairman of the Labour Party, Alhaji Lamidi Apapa, has disowned a purported claim by the Julius Abure dissolved faction to have appointed him as a member of the Board of Trustee (BOT), of the party.

He said according to the constitution of the Labour Party he remained the Acting National chairman of the Party and therefore did not recognise any other leadership talk of giving him an appointment.

Apapa reminded Abure that he still stands illegal as pronounced by the court to perform any function under the Labour Party.

“I still have the constitutional right to lead the Labour Party to its National Convention where a new set of party officials will emerge”, he said in a statement sent to our correspondent.

According to him: “My attention has been drawn to a publication in a newspaper of Wednesday 26th November,2025, that I have been appointed the BOT of the party.

“The publication is unfounded and does not represent the decision of the Labour party.

“Barr.Julius Abure has since been removed by a judgement of supreme Court in April and by our party constitution, article 14/A/B automatically gives me the power to take over the affairs of the party.

“In April I assumed duty as acting national chairman and Alh.Umar Farouk as national secretary.

“The decision of the party has since been  communicated to INEC, but yet to be updated in their portal”, he said.

Apapa said the party has taken INEC to court, compelling it to respect the judgement of the supreme Court, adding that until the case is determined before it will properly address Abure and its illegal structure.

He called on security agencies, INEC and the court to stop Abure from parading himself as party chairman and plans to organise both State Congresses and National Convention.

“I employ Nigerians to believe in my leadership to position the labour party for a credible convention that will usher new leadership ahead of 2027 as the labour party remains the best alternative political party in the country.
