Nigeria Maritime, Society of Engr. boost collaboration for blue economy

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) have intensified their partnership to accelerate Nigeria’s Blue Economy development.

The Director General of NIMASA, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, dropped this hint yesterday in Lagos during a courtesy visit from the NSE leadership, led by its President, Engineer Margaret Aina Oguntala, at NIMASA’s  headquarters.

He said, the critical role that professionalism in engineering plays in strengthening Nigeria’s maritime infrastructure cannot be overemphasized

Dr. Mobereola underscored that engineering expertise forms the backbone of advancements in maritime safety and infrastructure. He assured NSE members of NIMASA’s commitment to working closely with them in line with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda and Blue Economy mandate.

In a statement signed by Osagie Edward, FNIPR, Deputy Director and Head of Public Relations at NIMASA, and made available to Sky News Africa, Engr. Oguntala expressed the NSE’s strong alignment with the Blue Economy vision. She noted that the Society’s objectives complement national goals to harness opportunities within Nigeria’s marine and maritime sectors.

Engineer Oguntala conveyed confidence that this enhanced collaboration will foster innovation, improve infrastructure development, and drive sustainable economic growth. She emphasized NSE’s readiness to provide the technical expertise needed to support these efforts.

Both NIMASA and NSE agreed to deepen cooperation and leverage engineering excellence to unlock the full potential of Nigeria’s marine resources. The collaboration aims to address key challenges and improve the overall capacity of the maritime sector.

This strengthened partnership not only reaffirms the commitment of both organizations but also signals a critical step toward positioning Nigeria as a major player in the global Blue Economy landscape.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both parties pledging to maintain close engagement for the benefit of Nigeria’s maritime industry and broader economy.
