Nigeria’s Abuja Minister, Inaugurates Major Water Project

Nigeria

Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, Nyesom Wike, has recently inaugurated a crucial water supply project that will serve Karu, Orozo, Kurudu, and surrounding communities in Abuja.

Speaking at the inauguration, Wike emphasized the importance of supporting leaders who deliver real development over mere rhetoric.

“Under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the FCT has prioritised both road infrastructure and potable water supply for satellite towns.” Wike pledged to construct a 2-kilometre road in Karu Site, crediting the advocacy of Senator Philip Aduda and the efforts of the Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) for facilitating several road projects.

Highlighting the critical nature of water, Wike stated, “Water is life. It is even more important than roads because we cannot do without it.” He assured residents that by June 2026, they would have access to treated water and would no longer rely on unsafe boreholes. The project timeline was shortened thanks to a 60 percent advance payment approved by President Tinubu to the contractor, CGC Nigeria Limited.

FCT Minister of State, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, praised the project for supporting health, agriculture, industry, and ecosystems, while Richard Dauda, Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), described it as a strategic initiative aligned with the Abuja Master Plan. The project will expand potable water access, create jobs, and improve public health in the Greater Abuja area, covering 195 kilometers of pipeline integration.

Community cooperation was called upon to ensure the project’s smooth and timely completion, promising a significant uplift in living standards across the FCT satellite towns by 2026
