Nigeria’s Electoral body has officially launched its online media accreditation portal for the upcoming bye-election scheduled for August 16, 2025.

This initiative, announced on July 23, aims to ensure that journalists and media organizations can effectively cover this pivotal electoral event.

Mrs. Victoria Eta-Messi, the electoral body’s Director of Voter Education and Publicity, emphasized the importance of media involvement in promoting transparency and accountability within the electoral process.

Despite the portal opening on July 8, only 12 applications have been received as of mid-July, falling short of expectations.

She urged all interested media outlets—print, broadcast, and online—to seize this opportunity before the portal closes at midnight on July 31, 2025. The commission reiterated that late applications will not be accepted, highlighting the critical role of timely and professional reporting in strengthening public trust in democracy.

For those looking to apply, the accreditation portal can be accessed at [INEC Media Accreditation Portal](https://imap.inecnigeria.org). For further inquiries, prospective applicants can reach out to the commission directly via phone at 07088844564 or 08032861058.

As the August bye-election approaches, the call for media engagement underscores the vital partnership needed to ensure a fair and transparent electoral process.
