Nigeria’s Governor Alia dissolves cabinet, appoints new chief of staff

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, announced the dissolution of the entire Benue State Executive Council, signaling a major reshuffle in the state’s leadership.

In a move announced at the close of the 12th meeting of the 2025 Executive Council, Governor Alia appointed Barrister Moses Atagher, a two-term former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice as well as former acting Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank, as the new Chief of Staff. His appointment takes immediate effect.

A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, says, the dissolution affects only the Commissioners, while the Governor expressed gratitude to the outgoing officials for their service over the past two years. He encouraged those not reappointed to remain active within the party and continue contributing to the state’s development.

Speaking on behalf of the Commissioners, Barr. Bemsen Mnyim thanked Governor Alia for the opportunity to serve, describing the experience as a learning journey at every stage.

Outgoing Commissioners have been directed to hand over their responsibilities to the Permanent Secretaries of their respective ministries without delay.

This shake-up signals Governor Alia’s intent to realign his administration for renewed focus and fresh energy as Benue State moves forward.
