Nigeria’s Tinubu’s northern renaissance and the unseen reality behinds former Senator’s claims

Nigeria
A former Senator in Nigeria, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has claimed that the country’s President, Bola Tinubu has abandoned northern Nigeria in favor of the South.
An openion article suggests that the claim deserves a closer look grounded in facts and ongoing realities.
The article supplies as follows:
Contrary to this narrative, the Tinubu administration is driving a comprehensive northern revival through massive infrastructure investments, security operations, agricultural programs, and influential political appointments—all evidence of a deliberate and balanced national development strategy.
The 2024 and 2025 budgets reveal no neglect; instead, they underpin monumental projects like the Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano Expressway and the transnational Kano–Katsina–Jibia–Maradi railway. These projects alone, worth hundreds of billions of naira, are catalysts for economic integration and prosperity in the North. Moreover, federal road rehabilitations across Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa and critical dams and irrigation works led by River Basin Development Agencies push food security and job creation at the grassroots level.
Security challenges long plaguing the North have drawn targeted military responses under Tinubu’s government with operations such as Hadin Kai and Whirl Punch bolstering peace efforts in insurgency hotspots. These efforts are pivotal in stabilizing the region, allowing for a revival of farming and commerce.
Northern voices resonate strongly within key government circles, dispelling claims of political exclusion. Figures like National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Defence Minister Muhammad Badaru, and other northern ministers occupy strategic roles shaping national policies directly impacting the region’s welfare.
Social development is another priority: youth empowerment through skills training, creative economy initiatives, and affordable housing projects under the Renewed Hope agenda spotlight northern states as beneficiaries, improving livelihood and social infrastructure.
This multi-sectoral approach highlights that northern Nigeria is not sidelined but central to Tinubu’s vision for national unity and equitable growth. Kwankwaso’s claims fall short of reflecting the substantive progress underway, which, if supported, can propel the North—and Nigeria as a whole—toward a new era of development and peace.
In this crucial moment, Nigerian leaders and citizens alike must evaluate realities through a prism of facts, recognizing that Tinubu’s administration is actively crafting a northern renaissance, not neglecting the region. The time has come to embrace this vision of inclusive growth that transcends regional divides and secures a prosperous future for all Nigerians.
