PDP is bigger than Wike – Plateau ex gov, Tapgun says

Nigeria
A former Governor of Plateau State and a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Amb. Fidelis Tapgun, has said the National Elective Convention of the party scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State, despite the conditions set by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike and his camp.
“Wike is not bigger than PDP”, he said.
Recall that Wike and his camp last Monday, under the banner of the Eminent Leaders and Concerned Stakeholders of the PDP, warned that the party’s forthcoming national convention in November would be “invalid” if their resolutions are not implemented.
Responding, Tapgun, speaking with Journalists on Thursday in Jos, described Wike’s action as reckless, advising him to remember that posterity will judge all mankind.
He said the FCT Minister is not bigger than the PDP National Executive Council (NEC), reminding him that he is a member of the NEC, therefore must abide by the decision of the NEC.
“The NEC is the next highest body of the party and once they have taken a decision, it is binding on every member. As it is today, the NEC has taken a decision and every member of the party will abide by it”, Tapgun said
The conflict between Wike and the party has gone too far and must be put to a stop.
“Wike should allow the party to move forward. The party is bigger than him”, he reiterated
“He is trampling on the freedom of Nigerians and I don’t think it is fair, because posterity will judge him. So I think it’s better for him to just abide by what the party is doing.
“No one has stopped him from supporting the government of the day, but to think he can kill PDP, I don’t think it is fair.
Tapgun opined with the submission of many political watchers, who have said the target of Wike and his camp is to ensure that the party is not strong enough to present a candidate in the 2027 general elections.
“The way the party is going now, it is not going to be strong enough to contest or challenge the ruling party in 2027”, he said.
