Supercomputer makes Premier League prediction after Sunderland hold Manchester City

Arsenal were the biggest winners, thumping fellow title contenders Aston Villa 4-1 at the Emirates Stadium.

It was sweet revenge for Arsenal, who had lost to the same opponents just a few weeks back at Villa Park after Emi Buendia’s late goal.

Mikel Arteta’s side were, however, superior this time around, bagging the huge win thanks to goals from Gabriel Magalhaes, Martin Zubimendi, Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Jesus.

“I’m so happy. We play every three days, we played an opponent today that comes from 11 wins in a row, a superb team, very difficult to play against, and we knew that we were going to have periods throughout the game,” said an elated Arteta via the club’s website.

The win was even better as Manchester City dropped points on Thursday away to Sunderland. The newly-promoted side maintained their unbeaten streak on home ground this season, holding Pep Guardiola’s side to a goalless draw.

“Today was one of those days we could not finish the chances. It’s fine, it’s a point. Obviously, we’re not happy because we wanted better than this. It’s still a long season. It’s football, isn’t it? You can’t be perfect every time, every half and every minute. We know that,” said Manchester City captain Bernardo Silva.

Supercomputer predicts Premier League winner

After the results, Opta’s supercomputer is now backing only four teams to challenge for the title this season, while the rest have been given a 0.00% chance.
Arsenal, who now enjoy a four-point gap at the top, lead with 77.11%, followed by Manchester City’s 18.30%. Aston Villa are third with 4.28%.

The only other team included are the defending champions Liverpool, who have a paltry 0.31% chance of retaining their title.

The Reds have seemingly shaken off their mid-season misfortunes. Before their goalless draw against Leeds United on Thursday, they had won four games in a row to get back into the top four.

What next in the Premier League?

Arsenal will travel away to Bournemouth on Saturday evening. The Cherries last won a game in October and would be desperate to start 2026 with a bang.

Aston Villa will look to bounce back against Nottingham Forest, while Liverpool will be away to Fulham.

Enzo Maresca leaves Chelsea

Manchester City will be at home to crisis-stricken Chelsea, who will head to the Etihad without a head coach, following the departure of Enzo Maresca.

Maresca left his role after increasing internal frustrations and a breakdown in the relationship with the owners

The U-21s coach, Calum McFarlane, will be in charge of the team in Manchester.
