2027: ‘We have not seen anything that will stop Gov Mutfwang’s re-election’ – Group

A group under the aegis of Plateau Youths For Progressive Change (PYPC), has disclosed that Governor Caleb Mutfwang remains the most favoured candidate to win the 2027 governorship election in Plateau State.

Speaking with our correspondent, leader of the Group Yakubu Ezra said there is currently no politician in the State that will emerge and have a strong backing like Governor Mutfwang.

Yakubu said the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), as it stands, cannot produce a governorship candidate that can be taken seriously because of the factionalised state of the party.

“Also, the Labour Party is factionalised and has the same fate like PDP, even mostly that Peter Obi, who was the pulling force of the party, has defected.

“Who else has what it takes to move into the 2027 contest with the kind of stamina and strength to be more successful comparatively with Mutfwang?”

Yakubu said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), in the State has made Mutfwang 001, meaning that he is the leader of the party and
enjoys support of all party members and will definitely emerge the party’s flag bearer.

“For now, the odds are in his favour because I have not seen anything that will prevent him from winning the next election,” Yakubu said.

He continued: “He hasn’t done anything against his former party the PDP in my understanding, and the PDP alone cannot decide who becomes the next Governor”.

The group leader said the performance of Governor Mutfwang will also make it impossible for anyone who is planning to challenge him in 2027 to garner support that will override the support the Governor is currently enjoying.

He said the APC surprisingly has overwhelmingly thrown their full weight in supporting Mutfwang, their new bride, replying to everyone who is throwing tantrums to the Governor.

“For now, Mutfwang does not have opposition and I haven’t heard anybody making any proposition about the 2027 Governorship election in the State.

In the days ahead Yakubu urged politicians to prioritise the interests of the State.

“Our politicians should see politics as a dynamic game, and what I will advise is for them to play the game on the basis of ideology and programmes.

“Let them envision the way they want the State to be and not target the Governor.

“They should eschew politics of tribes and religion because not making our State the focal point of our politics has held us down for so long.”

Yakubu added that the PYPC will back the re-election bids of Governor Mutfwang without thinking twice.
