When Excellence Meets Preparation – The story of Nigerian new Minister Doro

A landmark announcement on October 21, 2025, by Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu,  nominating Dr Bernard Doro from Plateau  state as minister, replacing Prof Nentawe Yilwatda who was elected the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC ) recently was highly commendable.

Dr Doro is Known for his calm demeanor, oratory and  moderate approach to politics.

 He campaigned rigorously for the election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Presidential election in 2023 ,being an  official of the APC in the United Kingdom.

It could be recalled that the Senate also  screened and approved the nomination of Dr. Bernard Doro as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on Thursday  October 30th 2025.

His confirmation by the Nigerian Senate followed a brief screening session that lasted less than 30 minutes during plenary.

Doro, who spoke brilliantly at the floor of  the Nigerian Senate  during his screening outlined his vision for fostering an inclusive humanitarian ecosystem in the country. 

He pledged to create a humanitarian ecosystem that is inclusive, guided by impartiality and independence.

After a few questions,  the senators expressed satisfaction with his credentials and capacity to serve.

The lawmakers asked him to take a bow and leave.

Several stakeholders in Plateau and Nation at large have  lauded his appointment describing him as a round peg in a round hole. 

There were also  celebrations in some communities in Plateau following Dr Doro’s appointment as Minister. 

The Leader of the APC in Plateau State and Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District Simon Bako Lalong  who congratulated Dr. Bernard Mohammed Doro on his nomination and confirmation as Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by President Bola Tinubu  expressed confidence that Dr Doro would excel in the task ahead of him. 

Senator Lalong described his nomination and  replacement of Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda formally Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Poverty Reduction who was appointed as APC National Chairman in July, as appropriate because he comes with a rich professional background and experience that will enable him serve the nation dutifully. 

Lalong commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for picking another committed and patriotic son of Plateau to be part of the Renewed Hope Administration and serve in the highest Executive decision making body.

According to him, President Tinubu has once again demonstrated his capacity for picking people with talents and passion for service, giving them an opportunity to showcase their gifts in national service. 

He added that Dr. Doro brings a sound resume as an expert in clinical practice, pharmaceutical management, strategic leadership, community development and humanitarian service. 

Senator Lalong says he has no doubt that Dr. Doro will do his best to contribute to the advancement of the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu Administration. 

Also one time Senator representing Plateau North Senatorial district Istifanus Gyang a congratulated Dr Doro on his appointment . 

Gyang said  “I felicitate with our dear brother Dr. Bernard Doro on the confirmation of his appointment as  a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by the Senate.”

It is evident that Dr. Doro will leverage his prolonged diaspora exposure and network to advantage the nation, particularly in the discharge of the mandate of his office, and added value to the Tinubu administration.

In a related development, Senator Nora Ladi Daduut  also congratulated Dr. Doro on his nomination  as Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria  by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration as  well as his confirmation  by  the Nigerian Senate .

Daduut who represented  Plateau South Senatorial District in the 9th National Assembly in a congratulatory message, described Dr. Doro’s appointment as well-deserved.

She also  commended  President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for finding him worthy of such a strategic national responsibility.

The Senator noted that Dr Bernard Doro ‘s nomination was widely accepted in Plateau  state due  to his track records.

Daduut the Pro Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Akure, added that  Doro  would definitely, perform creditably well in the cabinet in the quest to deliver the vision and missions of the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President Tinubu Administration, as well as trickling it down to the benefit of Plateau state.

” You are indeed a round peg in a round hole and people like you won’t hesitate to give you their support to ensure utmost success for our beloved Nigeria.”

“I must also commend you for your brilliant performance during the screening. This, of course, is an attestation of your proficiency.”

She also called on citizens of  Plateau state to support the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led administration as it continues to provide more dividends of democracy to Nigerians

The  Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang,  also joined numerous well-wishers and associates across the country and beyond in extending his heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Bernard Doro on his nomination and subsequent confirmation by the Nigerian Senate as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

In a congratulatory message signed by Bere Gyang, his Director of Press and Public affairs , Governor Mutfwang described Dr. Doro’s appointment as well-deserved, commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for finding him worthy of such a strategic national responsibility.

The Governor noted that the appointment represents a fitting recognition of Dr. Doro’s intellectual excellence, professional integrity, and unwavering commitment to advancing Nigeria’s humanitarian ecosystem anchored on impartiality and service to humanity.

Governor Mutfwang expressed confidence that with Dr. Doro’s rich academic background, holding degrees in Pharmacy, Law, and an MBA with a focus on IT-driven business strategy, as well as a Master’s in Advanced Clinical Practice, he will bring his vast experience and multidisciplinary insight to bear in driving effective governance and impactful service delivery.

He further praised Dr. Doro’s visionary leadership, resilience, and devotion to justice, equity, and national development, describing him as a shining example of integrity, inclusion, and excellence. The Governor remarked that Dr. Doro’s emergence marks a new dawn in building a strategic humanitarian framework that will contribute meaningfully to national transformation.

On behalf of the Government and the peace-loving people of Plateau State, Governor Mutfwang warmly congratulated Dr. Bernard Doro and commended the Nigerian Senate for the seamless screening process. He prayed for divine wisdom, strength, and grace to enable Dr. Doro excel in his new role and contribute significantly to the progress and unity of Nigeria.

A rural dweller in Bassa local government of Plateau state  elder Bulus  Sati ,who spoke to our correspondent on Dr Doro’s appointment said,he stands as a beacon of refined leadership, a disciplined steward .

He is also a transparent  man who was well-raised by his parents, he added. 

Our correspondent reports that  Dr Doro was born on January 23, 1969, in Kwall, Bassa LGA of Plateau State, Dr Doro has over 20 years of multidisciplinary experience in clinical practice, pharmaceutical management, strategic leadership, and community engagement in the UK and Nigeria.

He has degrees in Pharmacy and law, an MBA focusing on IT-driven business strategy, and a Master’s in Advanced Clinical Practice..

He is an Independent Prescriber and Advanced Clinical Practitioner with NHS frontline experience across urgent care, walk-in centres, GP practices, and hospital settings.

He has also led youth mentorship and social impact initiatives in the diaspora and local communities.
