Without Gov Mutfwang, APC is dead in Plateau – Group

A group saddled with the responsibility to hold politicians accountable, has said that the defection of some People’s Democratic Party (PDP), members to the All Progressives Congress (APC), last Saturday was meaningless without Governor Caleb Mutfwang joining the party.

The Group, Plateau Youths For Progressive Change (PYPC), said it observed that the reception accorded to those that left PDP did not carry weight as speculated because the “Big Man”, Mutfwang was obviously not among the defectors.

Ezra Yakubu, Chairman of the Group, figured that the APC needed a personality like the Governor if it wants to reclaim Plateau in 2027, hence, advising those blocking Mutfwang from joining the party to have a rethink.

He criticised the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe for making a derogatory statement against the Governor, when he said “all is set to take Plateau in 2027”.

“APC cannot take Plateau if Governor Mutfwang is missing in your party. Rather than concentrating on wooing the Governor, you are busy boasting that you will take power from him in 2027.

“Mutfwang has organic followership and will win elections even in the PDP or any other party he chooses to join. So it will do the APC good if they stop playing bitter internal politics that will only shortchange their chances of winning the State and allow the Governor to come.

“The crowd during the reception of the defectors was low, compared to the crowd during the PDP State Congress, this is a pointer to the fact that Mutfwang still controls the political atmosphere in the State.

“The people love him because of his performance irrespective of the initial challenges that greeted him during the first one year in office”, Yakubu said.

Reiterating the position of the group, a former House of Representatives member, Dachung Musa Bagos, said the entire PDP chapter in Plateau will defect with the Governor to the APC.

Bagos added that if the governor defects, the people will elect him for a second term, despite the change of platform.

He said that the ongoing crisis in the PDP has made it impossible for serious politicians on the Plateau to rely on the party structures.
